In the
Netherlands, inhabited by people of Germanic orig in (north) and Roman (the south), the Renaissance appeared only i n the sixteenth century. Constant fighting and unrest hampering t he economy and further development of architecture. Directions in flux of new trends, due to the complicated political situation in the region were mixed. After the conclusion of the Treaty of Utrecht in 1579, the northern part of the area regained its independence, and the south still remained under Spanish rule.
